Due to the inclement weather the Washington Township Municipal Building will be closed on Monday, February 23, 2026.

Due to the inclement weather the Washington Township Municipal Building will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026.

With a significant snowstorm predicted for this weekend, the Police Department is asking all residents of Washington Township to please stay off the roadways during periods of heavy snow and hazardous conditions when possible. If you are able, we encourage you to begin running errands now so you have what you need ahead of time, including food, medications, and other essentials. Preparing in advance will help you avoid being out on the roads once the storm arrives.

The Police Department also wants to remind everyone that parking on any roadway is prohibited by township ordinance during snow events. This allows our Road Department to safely and efficiently plow and treat the streets. Vehicles left on the roadway will be ticketed and may be towed at the owner’s expense if necessary.

Please expect potential road closures, downed trees, and power outages throughout the area. The Police Department will do their best to monitor conditions and share updates as they become available. If you must travel, plan ahead and know your alternate routes.

If you experience an emergency, do not hesitate to contact the Police Department. Please keep in mind that during a widespread storm, response times may vary as officers handle a high volume of calls. If your vehicle is not capable of safely driving in snow, we strongly encourage you to stay home and avoid adding to already difficult road conditions.

If you lose power, be sure to notify your power company (Report an outage to JCP&L 1-888-544-4877) as they will be operating in emergency mode. If you need access to a warming center, contact the Police Department  at 908-876-3232 and the Police Department will coordinate with the Office of Emergency Management to assist. If you are using a generator, always operate it in a well-ventilated area with exhaust directed outdoors.

Above all, please stay safe, use good common sense, and avoid unnecessary travel until the storm has passed and roadways are cleared.

January is Radon Action Month

Washington Township Health Department, Morris County, New Jersey, in cooperation with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) Radon Program, announces that January has been designated Radon Action Month.

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in smokers and the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers. However, because radon is invisible and odorless, it is easy to ignore this potential hazard in our own homes.

Radon is a radioactive gas that occurs naturally when uranium and radium break down in the soil and in rock formations. Radon gas moves up into the home through cracks in the foundation and openings around pumps, pipes and drains.

Statistics indicate that of the homes tested for radon in Washington Township, many have recorded above acceptable levels. Due to radon levels varying from house to house, the only way to determine if your home exceeds the action level is to test it for radon.

Radon is measured in picoCuries per liter (pCi/L) of air. The average U.S. indoor level is about 1.3 pCi/L. At 4 pCi/L. The risk of lung cancer from radon is greater than the risk from fire or other home sources. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the NJDEP recommend that action be taken to reduce radon levels if the level in the home is greater than or equal to 4 pCi/L

Radon Test Kits will be available free of charge for Washington Township residents (with proof of residency) at the Washington Township Health Department at 43 Schooley's Mountain Rd., Long Valley,  NJ  while supplies last.  The kit includes the testing canister, instructions, pre-paid mailer and laboratory testing kit. Results are emailed or mailed directly to the homeowner.

The Health Department encourages all residents to test their homes for Radon. 

Township Offices New Years Holiday Hours

The Washington Township Municipal Offices will close at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 31. The offices will remain closed on Thursday, January 1, 2026 and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, January 2, 2026.

Washington Township is hosting a FREE rabies vaccination clinic on January 17, 2026 from 9am-11am.  The clinic will be held at the Washington Township DPW facility located at 54 Rock Road, Long Valley NJ 07853.  If you have any questions please call the Health Department at (908)-876-3650.  

All dogs must be leashed and all cats must be in a carrier.  

The vaccination clinic is open to all NJ residents.

Important Update on Your Community Energy Aggregation Program

Dear Resident,

Since September 2024, your town’s Community Energy Aggregation Program has provided residents with reduced electricity rates through the Hunterdon Area Energy Cooperative “HAEC”, offering a standard rate of $0.1119/kWh and an optional 100% green energy rate of $0.1176/kWh.

Due to a regulatory change by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, capacity pricing adjustments have impacted electricity rates. As a result, JCP&L’s utility’s anticipated price-to-compare as of June 1, 2025, will be:

• $0.142668/kWh for the first 600 kWh used
• $0.151893/kWh for usage above 600 kWh

Beginning June 1, 2025, through your first meter read on or after November 30, 2025, the HAEC Community Energy Aggregation Program will offer:

• $0.1394/kWh for the Standard Program Option (no additional renewable energy)
• $0.1494/kWh for the Green Program Option (100% renewable energy)

Additionally, beginning in October 2025, JCP&L’s rate is expected to increase to $0.15360/kWh.

South Branch Raritan River Restoration Project Information Session

Due to the inclement weather this session information session has been cancelled for tonight February 6th.  The project information session will be rescheduled and more information will be available soon!

Your local non-profit, Raritan Headwaters Association (RHA) is working with a group of partners to restore a section of the South Branch of the Raritan River that flows through Washington Township. Goals for the proposed project are to restore habitat for fish and other wildlife, improve water quality, and to address local flooding. You are invited to meet project partners on February 6th who will present an overview of the proposed restoration, expected benefits, and approximate timeline. Partner representatives will be present to answer questions from residents.

There is no cost for the Flu and or COVID vaccines for most insurance plans.

Note, we are unable to accept the following insurance plans:

1.    All HMO’s

2.     NJ Family Care /Medicaid Insurance.

3.     Magnacare/OSCAR/PHCS/Clover Insurances

4.     Dual Plan Horizon Medicare Advantage

5.     United Health Care/Oxford/UMR Insurance plans.

6.     United Medicare Advantage HMO-POS Plans (other plans such as PPO are accepted)

At the Clinic:

1. Please bring all insurance cards to the clinic to determine eligibility.
2. Cash Price is $40.00 for the Regular Flu vaccine
3. A parent/guardian is required to be present with children under the age of 18.
4. A provider from Green Brook Family Medicine will be available at the clinic to address any vaccine related questions.
