Zoning Board and other Board/Committee Volunteer Positions Available

Did you know that there are approximately 15 volunteer boards & committees that do important work in Washington Township? Please consider volunteering your time to improve your community! Most groups hold a short meeting one evening a month. There are currently openings on the following Boards, Committees, or Commissions:  Zoning Board of Adjustment, Economic Development, Environmental, Historic Preservation, and Shade Tree. ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT

The Zoning Board of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial body that hears and decides variance applications and appeals of decisions by the Zoning Officer, and also  interprets current zoning ordinances for various applications. The Zoning Board meets on the 1st Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. ( 1 position available)

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

The Washington Township Economic Development Committee’s mission is to attract and support those businesses compatible with the character of the Township into the industrial, commercial and office research zoned properties within the Township to build ratable in these categories and thereby reduce the tax burden on township residents.  They meet on the 1st Thursday of every month at 7:00 p.m. (2 positions available)

ENVIRONMENTAL COMMISSION

The Washington Township Environmental Commission, an advisory board to the Municipal Government of Washington Township, consists of volunteers who make recommendations regarding land use, natural resource protection and other environmental issues facing our community.  Meetings are held at 7:00 p.m. on the 4th Monday of each month. (1 position available)

HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION *

The Washington Township Historic Preservation Commission oversees changes involving existing properties and new construction within three historic districts and several individual sites.  It also acts in an advisory position to any homeowner of an historic property within the township.  Meetings are at 7:00 p.m. on the 3rd Wednesday of every month and the 1st Monday of odd numbered months.  Training through state conferences is available. (3 positions available)

SHADE TREE COMMITTEE

The role of the Shade Tree Committee is to act in an advisory capacity to the Planning Board.  Some of the duties of the Committee are reviewing plats of proposed development projects, recommending locations for shade trees to be planted, and planting trees to replace dead trees along township streets. The group meets on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. (1 position available)
