Information for the Primary Election - July 7, 2020
Per the Governors Executive Order #144, signed on May 15, 2020, the Primarily Election will be a Vote By Mail Election.
Registered Republican and Democrat Voters:
- All registered, active Republicans and Democrats will automatically be sent a Mail in Ballot . The ballot will come with a prepaid envelope for return. Your returned ballot must be postmarked by July 7, 2020, and received by the Board of Elections by July 14,2020. Please follow the submission instructions that will be included.
- There will be 5 drop box location sin Morris County if you prefer to drop you ballot off. The will be installed by June 19, 2020. All drop boxes are under 24/7 surveillance, ballots are retrieved daily and securely transported to the Board of Elections Offices. They resemble a USPS Blue Mailbox, but are Red, White & Blue and display “Morris County – Official Ballot Drop Box.” Boxes will be locked at 8 PM on July 7, when the polls close and will no longer be receiving ballots. The closest drop box is located at the Mt Olive Municipal Building located at 204 Flanders/Drakestown Road, Budd Lake NJ 07828 (Parking Lot entrance to Municipal Offices)
Inactive registered Republicans and Democrats, and Unaffiliated Voters
- Will be sent a Mail-in Ballot application designed specifically for this election. You will need to return the application by June 30 to receive your ballot and vote. You will need to declare a party in order to vote in the primary.
If you have a disability and need an accessible ballot, vote at a polling place on election day, where you’ll be given a headset and accessible device to allow you to cast your votes.
Mail in Ballot Status. Want to check the status of your Mail in Ballot? Follow these steps:
- First, make sure you are registered to vote.
- Next, sign up for an NJ Department of Elections public access account.
- Once you’re logged in, click on the “Mail-in Ballot” button. Your entire history of mail-in ballots will be listed here – if your ballot hasn’t been received yet, it won’t be listed.
No sample ballots will be mailed. Instead, the County will mail a postcard to voters will receive a postcard with the polling location details. Washington Township will have one polling place available on Election Day. It will be at the Senior Center, open from 6 am - 8 pm. The Senior Center is located in Rock Spring Park, off East Springtown Road. Only Provisional Paper Ballots will be available to cast a vote.
Your Mall in Ballot will NOT be accepted at the polling location. Mail in Ballots will NOT be accepted by the Township Clerk
Voters who go to the polling location must wear a mask and practice social distancing.
As of June 16, 2020 no legislation has been passed regarding the November General Election. If you are receiving a Mail in Ballot in July, that does not mean you will be receiving a Mail in Ballot in November. If legislation is passed to change that, it will be posted on the County Clerk's and Washington Townships Facebook pages and websites.
