Township Update - June 9, 2020

June 9, 2020 - The Governor announced yesterday that municipal and private-club swimming pools can reopen on Monday, June 22nd and the state Department of Health will release full guidance today relating to the procedures and protocols that will need to be followed. However, the Governor also announced in May that non-contact sports would resume on the same day and we are still waiting on the state Department of Health to issue standards that will need to be followed as directed in the Governor’s Executive Order. The order is more specific than the announcement and only permits non-contact sports where there is no regular interaction within six feet to resume.

The primary election will be held July 7 and will be primarily a vote by mail election. Municipalities will have one polling place open but only provisional paper ballots will be available to cast a vote. More information can be found on the county board of elections website at: https://elections.morriscountynj.gov/

As of June 8th, there are no new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Washington Township

As a reminder, if you’re sick, call your healthcare provider. Call your doctor’s office or hospital FIRST before driving there. If you call 9-1-1 for a true emergency, please cover your face to protect yourself and our first responders. Follow CDC guidelines and stay home as much as possible:

  • Wear a cloth mask at grocery stores, parks and golf courses and where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

  • Avoid handshakes.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

  • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. If you do not have a tissue, use your sleeve (not your hand).

  • Get a flu shot to prevent the flu if you have not done so this season.

Stay safe,

Mayor Matthew T. Murello
